Standards for practice

The Canadian Nurses Association states that the nursing profession is self-regulated and the development of standards of practice, based on the profession’s values, constitutes one of the characteristics of a self-regulated profession.

Thus, in order for our professional specialty to become self-regulated, it is necessary that we establish standards. These standards of practice will allow us to promote our specialized practice in a safe, competent and ethical manner.

Since 2008, QPANA has actively participated in the National Standards Committee. We invite you to send us your comments and suggestions. These might help us in the subsequent revision of these Standards.

This Standards for Practice document contains resources, references and pertinents materials that were suggested and wanted by PeriAnesthesia nurses across Canada. A document not to be missed in your perianesthesia working environment !

The first edition was launched in May 2008, the second one in October 2011,and the third one in May 2014.  The fourth edition in English is now available for purchase, in both English and French version. Do not miss this fourth updated version of the Standards for Practice in PeriAnesthesia Nursing
