Continuing Education for nursing in Quebec - Professional Standard

In September 2011, the Quebec Order of Nurses (OIIQ) adopted the professional standard for continuing education.  Nurses have a responsibility to conform.

The professional standard for continuing education has the following three components:

  1. Effective in January 1st, 2012, the nurse participates annually in a minimum of 20 hours of continuing educational activities, which comprises at least 7 hours of accredited activities.
  2. At the moment of registration to renew her/his nursing license, the nurse declares the number of time that she/he has devoted to continuous educational activities and the ones that were accredited.
  3. The nurse keeps an annual record of her/his continuous educational activities for a period of five years.

Further information could be consulted in the document on line and at the section Frequent Ask Questions (FAQ) of the OIIQ Web site

The annual conferences organized by the Quebec PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association (QPANA) are considered as continuing educational activities.
